Prudentialifers in Martsa ng mga Bayani

To show their dedicated support to Gawad Kalinga’s thrust to fight against poverty, Prudentialife officers, employees, and kapitbahayans in Prudentialife-Gawad Kalinga Village in Baseco, Tondo, Manila, marched together in the historic “Martsa ng mga Bayani” (Parade of Heroes) during the celebration of the 3rd Gawad Kalinga Global Expo last October 7 at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Prudentialife Foundation, Inc. Senior Assistant Vice President Angelita C. Mercado encouraged everyone to take advantage of these activities (Gawad Kalinga activities) “to find out that we are so blessed and that there is no need to complain of the problems we face.”

“Participating in the Gawad Kalinga Congress is tiring yet heart warming. Meeting with the less fortunate makes you reach out to them and realize that you have so much to give in spite of the everyday rush of our lives,” SAVP Mercado added.

Prudentialife employee Joan Perreras said that she was grateful to be part of such a historic event.

“The experience was overwhelming especially when I saw the huge crowd of people - from students, professionals, soldiers to Kapitbahayans -the real heroes of Gawad Kalinga,” Perreras said.

Various organizations, schools and universities, the police and military, and major corporations joined the march to help realize the country of their dreams by becoming heroes for their fellow Filipinos.

Araw ng mga Bagong Bayani

Gawad Kalinga has become a symbol of Filipino heroism. To showcase this, Gawad Kalinga spearheaded the “GK Global Expo 2006: The Power of We” at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on October 6-8, 2006 with its major partners from the different sectors in a shared goal for integrated and holistic community development work. Prudentialife, a leading pre-need and financial services company with 28 years of corporate social responsibility tradition, joins Gawad Kalinga in this historic event.

In 2004, Prudentialife turned over 50 houses to Gawad Kalinga (GK) which now benefits 48 families at the Prudentialife-GK Village in Baseco, Tondo, Manila. A year later, two houses were converted into a learning center supported by dedicated volunteer teachers. Today, 40 children are growing with the proper early education that they deserve to become responsible adults and citizens. This earned Prudentialife the GK Bagong Bayani Award.
